Turning Marine Drive into Raba'a Al- Adwiya

More than tens of  thousand protesters,a heavy rain, empty stomachs and a will as hard as steel. That is what the people of Ernakulam saw on 3 august. A Jaamaate-Islami protest programme in support of the Anti-coup protests in Raba'a Al Adwiya , Egypt against the military coup by general Fatah Al Sissi who is trying to replace the elected president Muhammed Morsi.

This programme actually showed the true nature of globalisation. THIS IS GLOBALISATION. A problem in a another country affects our mind too. Many have asked "why should we bother about the political problems of Egypt?" Well there are a lot of reasons why, be it to show our support to a fellow human fighting for justice, or be it the largest democratic country in the world trying to pay solace to a fight for democracy, or be it simply to re-energize the world wide fight for justice and equality. On the last days of Ramadan many believers across the state who could have stayed back at home saying " I will just stay here and pray and pray and pray" came for a stay-over to show their agitation over a crime against simple humanity.

Many notable personalities like  Jurist VR Krishna Iyer, Palayam Imam Moulavi Jamaludheen Mangada, T. Arif Ali, MLA KNA Kadher, father. darly edappangattil, swami vishwa badranantha shakthi bodhi, KK Baburaj, P. Mujeeb Rahaman, Basurendra Babu, Advocate Jayashankar, Advocate Shivan Madathil, KK Kochu, CR Neelakhandan, Rekha Raj, Gro Vasu, Advocate KP Muhammed and T. Mohammed Velam came to adress the gathering. They protested in the way the father of India showed them- peacefully. And they protested in the way their prophet taught them - peacefully with prayers. There was a magical mix of prayers and protests. After midnight rarely anyone slept. While some debated and discussed the issue others sat down to read the Holy Quran. While some was praying till dawn others were reading the newspaper, searching online for the latest news, yearning for good news. A perfect blend of relegion and social commitment. It was like as though it is their relegious nature that made them so socially consious. It was  a lovely sight.

Into the night as the protest progressed there received letters and messages from the protestors in Egypt. Their thanks and prayers, their position at that time, their fears and anxiety and their strong will to be forever peaceful no matter what happens to them. Such messages bought tears to the people's eyes. Here is the proof that what we do is not in vain. They whispered to each other. Here is the proof of brotherhood. Here is the proof for love. Here is a proof of relegious unity and peace.
