Friendship At A Distance

"You can never say goodbye if you love with your heart"

Ya ya..we all heard it.. we all said it. All of us had that moment ...that farewell speech which promised to stay in touch, that tears when we hugged our friends moving to a different place, that determination to make the friendship work when you jump into a plane to go to college, away from your school buddies and  simply even split into a different class as your best friend. And here we are years or months or weeks or days later.. and do we even know what our EX best friend is or even doing ??? 

We all had those best friends with whom we shared everything thing with and now they are just strangers with memories. Well , if you say you don't, lets face it- you are in denial! Just think back.. real hard. That friend in KG whom you always used to play with , walk home with! That boy who plays Tekken in your PS2 and never loses. That girl who was with you till high school . That gang you made up with everyone having really weird nicknames you thought were so cool. That girl who always spends the weekends with you in your hostel. Your roommate who shifted to another hostel. That colleague whom you always sit next to in board meetings.  Yup there you go... that's the friend i am talking about! And now where are they? What are they doing? Are they married? Do they have kids? oh wait. let me check them out on Facebook. 

Hey , now that's an easy thing. Keep contact with them with the greatest technology ever known to man. The internet. Heck problem solved! I'll just catch up with them , stalk them, like their comments and Pictures, send them a simile and voila friendship restored! If this is what you are thinking right now.. follow that thought with this one: THEY WERE ALWAYS THERE in Facebook, you had their number all this time, you see their names as you scroll down in Watsapp or in Instagram. But heck.. you just thought of them now as you kept reading! Never saw that one coming did you ? 


 Hey it's not your fault. It is just what we all do. We are busy with our lives, we make new friends on the way and we forget the old. Let me quote Lion King here " it's a Circle of life. We all do it knowingly or unknowingly. That is why when we see an old buddy it triggers memories you never thought you had and make you behave like an audience in Oprah Winfrey Show!

You know Aristotle said "Distance does not break off the friendship absolutely, but only the activity of it!" so quit reading this right away and send a message to all your old buddies.. whoever they are , wherever they are. Have a cup of coffee with them. Catch up on things and....okay I will stop writing and You go down the road of all your friendships!
